Curriculum


Grade – I                   Prathamika /అచ్చులు,హల్లులు

Objective
Familiarizing the children with the Telugu language. Introduction to the language.
Spoken:
      Common words (e.g. అమ్మ, ఆవు, ఇల్లు, ఈగ etc.)
      Numbers (1-10) in Telugu
      Basic opposites (పైన/కింద, బయట/లోపల,వేడి/చలి etc.)
      Common colors

Written:
      All vowels and consonants (అచ్చులు, హల్లులు)
Course Structure
      Each class begins and ends with a prayer. Children will be expected to learn the prayers before the year is over.
      The children will learn various common words as they go through their learning of each alphabet. Children will be encouraged to learn new words in every class.
      Children will be encouraged to converse as much as possible in Telugu.
Teaching Methodology
      All students will be provided with a textbook.
      In addition to the textbook, the teachers will use teaching props like charts, flashcards, simulated conversations, and short stories.
      Audiovisual equipment might also be used to help children learn short stories and/or songs
Expectations from Parents
      Check the weekly homework and make sure your children complete the homework before the next class
      Teach new words to your children whenever possible
      Most importantly, Telugu should be the language of conversation at home. Please insist on your children speaking in Telugu.

Grade – II                  Madhyama I / గుణింతాలు
Objective
Building upon the knowledge that was learned during Prathamika. Introducing more complicated words including common vegetables and animals.
Spoken:
      Numbers (1-100) in Telugu
      Common fruits and vegetables (e.g. వంకాయ, మామిడి పండు etc.)
      Common animals/birds (e.g. కుక్క, పిల్లి, కోడి, కాకి, etc.)
Written:
      All gunintaalu and words that contain gunintaalu
Course Structure
      Each class begins and ends with a prayer. Children will be expected to learn the prayers before the year is over.
      The children will learn various common words – they will be encouraged to learn to write the words (limited to gunintaalu)
      Children will be expected to start talking as much as possible in Telugu.
Teaching Methodology
      All students will be provided with a textbook.
      In addition to the textbook, the teachers will use teaching props like charts, flashcards, simulated conversations, and short stories.
      Audiovisual equipment might also be used to help children learn short stories and/or songs, based on need.

Grade – III                 Madhyama II / ఒత్తులు/వాక్యాలు/కథలు 
Objective
Building upon the knowledge that was learnt during Madhyama I. Introducing more complicated words like relations, seasons, directions, basic geography etc.

Spoken:
      Common relations (e.g. తాత, అమ్మమ్మ, నానమ్మ/బామ్మ/మామ్మ)
      Directions and seasons in Telugu
      Common geographical terms (e.g. నది, కొండ, లోయ etc.)

Written:
      All ottulu and words that contain ottulu

Grade – IV    Utteerna-1 కథలు/పద్యాలు/గీతాలు 

Objective
Taking the Telugu knowledge to the next level by focusing not on individual components – but on the language holistically.

      Ability to read sentences in Telugu – from any random book/ newspaper
      Ability to write sentences on their own in Telugu

Course Structure
      Each class begins and ends with a prayer. Children will be expected to learn the prayers before the year is over.
      The students will learn various lessons – they should be able to read and understand those lessons, write the answers to the questions and other exercises related to the lessons. 
      Children should talk in Telugu only.
      Children graduating from Utteerna will be expected to be role models for the other children in TeluguBadi and the Telugu community.
Teaching Methodology
      All students will be provided with a textbook.
      In addition to the textbook, the teachers will use teaching props like charts, flashcards, simulated conversations, and short stories.
      Audiovisual equipment might also be used to help children learn short stories and/or songs depending on the need and availability.

                              Grade V      Utteerna - 2     కథలు /పాటలు/ పద్యాలు /వ్యాకరణం

Objective
Taking the Telugu knowledge to the next level by focusing not on individual components – but on the language holistically.

      Ability to read Telugu thoroughly – from any random book/ newspaper
      Ability to write sentences and stories on their own in Telugu.

Course Structure
      Each class begins and ends with a prayer. Children will be expected to learn the prayers before the year is over.
      The students will learn various lessons – they should be able to read and understand those lessons, write the answers to the questions and other exercises related to the lessons.  They should learn to write the poems also.  They should be able to recite the poems well.  They will be taught basic Telugu Grammar 
      Children should talk in Telugu only.
      Children graduating from Utteerna-2 will be expected to be role models for the other children in TeluguBadi and the Telugu community.  They can come as student volunteers to TeluguBadi to help the teachers in classes.

    Guide the kids to read newspapers and other Telugu Books to know about the great writers and to learn  new words and new stories.
